A blanket returns

Did I dream this life?

A tremendous hearth made from canyon rocks climbs one wall of the home, burning wood and blowing heat. Magnificent big dogs play in the snow. Little ones tunnel under the covers to keep my feet warm.

Hot chili. Cappuccino. Plentiful pantry and freezer. Technology keeps me connected to friends and work and power that gives me the same. Independence in a dependent world.

Who lives like this?

I do. My animals do. For a time each year. Until blooms begin again from the moisture in the blanket.

Turkey and deer gather in the safety of the canyon with us.

They multiply.

Nature keeps them warm. Just like my horse. He prances in the snow. His coat is thick.

I’m awake and living this dream.

This photo is my reality.
