WIP (Work in Progress)

Sometimes we must dig up the past to come to terms with it.  As western forest fires  in the present remind us nothing lasts forever.  In my new book, the main character deals with both at the same time.

When a distinguished family in Oklahoma digs up a body after seventeen years, the story can be haunting.  Especially for Billie Lorraine as she escapes Montana fires where she has found peace. Every time a pine tree explodes, another memory sparks in her brain.

As she races to get four dogs and a horse to safety, courage overcomes doubt. Forgiveness overcomes fear.

In Digging Up Daddy, the places are real. The time frame is real.  The characters are an amalgamation of people in my life, including my family.

The story is metaphoric. Daddy had been buried outside the family plot for 17 years. We really did dig him up and move him to the family plot where he belonged. That’s a lot of time for a complex family to reflect on dysfunction and depression and find forgiveness.
