Drummer Boy in the aspens

It’s worth every lesson, every vet bill and hauling of hay.

They survive blizzards and minus 40 degrees in winter.

They could founder with the lush green grass in spring.

High temperatures in summer bring showers of water from the hose.

And avoiding riding through pastures where rattle snakes hide and clover brings spooky bees.

It’s all worth it for two weeks when aspen trees paint the skies and their branches form a golden red cathedral of peace.
