Retelling the story on the battle site

Chief Above Rock had an audience of hundreds of school children, on Indian Heritage Day.

The Battle of Arrow Creek.

The most important event in Crow history.

Crow land was the most abundant with the richest resources. Coveted by every plains tribe as their land was depleted by white men.

They were outnumbered 10 to 1. The alliance of plains tribes wanted to wipe the Crow out and take all of their land. From Yellowstone to the Bighorns.

The Crow prayed for Old Man Coyote to return. A herd of buffalo and a herd of elk stampeded, making the enemy think more Crow warriors had come. A mystic warrior tore through the enemy.

Chief Above Rock is standing on the land above the creek where the Crow people fought back, survived and kept their land forever.

We live on Crow country. Our new book is another telling of the story, with Kevin Red Star. The Office of Public Education and State Superintendent arranged for a beautiful reading to commemorate the day and acceptance of our book into the curriculum.

We were blessed that the Crow elders permitted us to retell the story.
